What to Wear: To a Summer Wedding

It seems like every time I log onto Facebook I see more and more updates about friends getting engaged or married. Love is definitely in the air and summer seems to be the prime time for nuptials to take place.

I don’t know about you, but when I receive a wedding invitation, my first thought is, “Awww..I’m so happy for them!” The second is, “Oh s***…what do I wear???”

If you’re in the same boat, take a look at some summer wedding outfit inspiration courtesy of BCBG:

A Few Wedding Guest Do’s and Don’ts…

  1. Don’t wear white to a wedding unless you are the bride! This is a wedding style tradition that is too risky to violate. You might have to deal with an angry bride if you break this rule.
  2. Always bring a gift. Most couples have registries set up, so try to stick to their requests. It’s easier for you and at least you know you’ll be getting them something they want.
  3. Don’t wear anything too short or figure-hugging. Even though you might be trying to get sparks flying between you and a hot groomsman, you don’t want to get the wrong kind of attention.

Wedding outfits are always a difficult one to get right I think. In the past I’ve found that I’m either too dressed up or not enough. I need a happy medium! I really like the first and second semi formal dresses. They’re fitted but not too much because yes as this article mentions, the last thing you want to do is attract the wrong kind of attention. I’m not sure how high the slit in the second evening dress is but I think you’d have to be pretty brave to pull something like this off. I think it would be a really good idea for people in retail jobs to incorporate these kinds of guides in high street stores. Just so people like me aren’t wondering around cluelessly during the wedding season and have to let the shop assistant know about our poor ability to choose appropriate clothes.
