Use Protection: The Best Sunscreens for Face and Body

It’s blazing hot all over the country. The sun seems to be beaming down stronger than ever. You’d think that everyone wears SPF to protect themselves from the sun’s rays, right? Wrong. That explains why skin cancer is the most common manifestation of cancer in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In addition to the deadly consequences of being outside unprotected, the sun is the most common cause of premature aging and skin discoloration.

All of the above can be prevented simply by proper use of sunscreen. A lot of people don’t like sunscreen because it makes your skin super greasy, smells weird and leaves a white film on your skin. Here are some of the best, non-greasy/smelly/filmy products on the market that will keep your skin protected this summer (and every other day):

Clarins Sunscreen for Face Wrinkle Control Cream SPF 50+, $30, provides “high protection for the face protects skin from the appearance of wrinkles and sun-induced age spots.” This sunscreen is one of the best formulations out there. Not only is it made with a blend of both UVA and UVB filters, it’s packed with botanical ingredients that moisturize the skin.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Daily Sunblock, $12.49, is another product that will keep your face protected without making it greasy. This was actually the first sunscreen I bought just for my face. I tend to have combination to oily skin, and this sunscreen didn’t cause any additional build up. It has a slight sunscreen-y smell, but nothing that is unbearable.

Clarins pops up in the mix yet again with its Spray Solaire Sun Care Milk-Lotion Spray, $32, which is actually my favorite sun care product. Probably the best quality I’ve ever used. I actually used this all over my body yesterday when I went tubing with friends. One of the first things they said was, “Wow, that stuff is making your skin glow!” My legs had the most gorgeous sheen ever. Needless to say, they grabbed the bottle and began spritzing it on themselves too.

Did You Know…

  • An SPF of 15 screens 93 percent of UVB rays, while a 30 screens 97 percent.
  • If you’re on the white sand, or other reflective surfaces, you’re being hit by UV rays in 2 directions – from above and below!
  • If you are wearing an SPF 50 sunblock, you should ideally re-apply every 50 minutes that you’re in direct sunlight for maximum effectiveness
