Five Tips To Help You Fight the Fat This Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is the eagerly-anticipated holiday that kicks-off an entire season full of shopping, family gatherings and food. As you travel out of town to your aunt’s house or prepare to host your own Turkey Day feast, you might be wondering if you’ll still be able to button your jeans the next day. Don’t stress! Here are five tips to keep your waistline in check:
1. Plan Your Plate
Even though it’s tempting to stack your plate with a little bit of everything, exercise moderation this year. Fill your plate with large portions of healthier items such as lean turkey and veggies. Complement those with tiny portions of favorites such as macaroni and cheese and sweet potatoes.
2. Don’t Eat Too Much
This tip is simple. When your hunger is satisfied, stop eating. Even though you’ve been waiting all year for this delicious home-cooked meal, don’t overindulge. Savor each bite slowly, and you will be less likely to end up having to loosen your belt after dinner.
3. Fight the Food Coma
Even though we all know a hearty serving of turkey can easily lull us into a tryptophan-induced food coma, resist the urge to knock out. Sleeping immediately after you eat is a sure-fire way to get an uncomfortable case of heartburn. Stay active by socializing with family or by helping to clean up.
4. Don’t Starve Yourself
Even though it’s tempting to starve yourself in order to make room for a dinner-time feeding frenzy, this is one of the worst things you could possibly do. Make sure to eat a solid, protein-packed breakfast and a light salad for lunch. This way, you will allow yourself just enough room to eat a healthy portion on Thanksgiving night.
5. Drink Plenty of Water
If you drink water throughout the day, especially before you chow down, you will feel more full and be less apt to overeat.
All of that said, the most important tip of all is to enjoy your holiday and reflect on all the things you have to be thankful for! Happy Thanksgiving!
